It’s been 27 years since we last saw Bill & Ted. After several failed attempts to get the third film rolling, it appears everything is now in order. Bill & Ted Face the Music is officially happening.
“To fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends.” (source EW)
Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about this. I hope it doesn’t turn into a cheesy cameo fest of musicians. Let’s do pro vs con.
Pro
– Bill & Ted are back!
– The current market is saturated with superhero films. It’s nice change of pace.
– They’ve had a lot of time to flesh this story out. I expect it to be good and funny.
Con
– The major studios in Hollywood don’t always know best. Some have passed on films that eventually became hits with another studio. However, more often than not, there is reason why studios keep passing on a film. This is a red flag for me.
– It’s been 27 years. Sure, the people who grew up with Bill & Ted will want to see this film, However, that won’t be enough for box office success. Will anyone else care?
-All I can think about is other failed comedy films that took too long to produce. This could be ‘Dumb & Dumber To, Blues Brothers 2000, & Zoolander 2 all over again.
While we still have a long way to go before this starts production, I think the above are legitimate pros and cons. Will the third time be a charm for Bill & Ted? I’m curious to find out.
