Quick Review: Mother

Jennifer Lawrence stars in this Mystery/ Horror/Drama film directed & written by Darren Aronofsky. (Black Swan, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, Pi) While the film leaves a bit to ponder, I don’t feel the need to see it again. (no spoilers)

When a couple living in solitude has there relationship tested by strangers showing up at their home, shit goes sideways. You won’t know much of what the hell is happening, but being an Aronofsky film, you know the plot will serve as a metaphor for something. No surprise there.

It’s very difficult to review this film without giving much away. Hell, even just discussing character names is difficult without infringing on spoiler territory. However, Lawrence is accompanied by a great supporting cast. Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeifer, & Javier Bardem all deliver some intense performances. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all I can say about that.

Ya, that look is about right.

You’ll start questioning the motives of these characters almost immediately. As events unfold, you only grow more perplexed and confused.  By the time the film has concluded, you’ll have watched this conflict escalate from inconvenience to complete madness & horror. Seriously, don’t eat anything within the last fifteen minutes of this movie. You’ll thank me later.

‘Mother’ is good for a one time viewing. Afterwards, do a quick Google search just to confirm if your plot theory was correct.

Score: 6/10

Pros

+ Great cast and performances

+ Keeps you on your toes and guessing

Con

– Once you figure it out, no need to see again.

-General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) is in this too! Sorry, can’t see him as anyone but Hux. from Star Wars at the moment.

-The last 15 minutes might be too much for some.
