Alien 5 will take place after Aliens. Will it ever be made?

We all remember the 1979 classic Alien. You also can’t forget to mention the kickass 1986 sequel Aliens. You might want to forget about the two horrible sequels that would follow after that. Alien 5 hopes to accomplish this by taking place after Aliens (source) I’m not jumping up and down yet. I’m still skeptical that it will ever be made.

According to Sigourney Weaver, the film is still very much happening. It’s just a matter of when. In early 2015, director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to make the next film in the franchise. I have read conflicting reports about its production. I’ve read that production will start after the release of Prometheus 2. I have also read that production might not start until the completion of the entire Prometheus trilogy.

alien5art2If they need to wait until the entire Prometheus trilogy is concluded, I don’t think this film will ever get made. If everything falls into place perfectly, (which rarely happens in Hollywood) Alien 5 could see its release around 2019 or 2020. So much can happen between now and then! Blomkamp might be tied up in another project. With 3 more Avatar sequels confirmed, who knows how much Weaver will be tied up with those. Also, Prometheus 2 & 3 might not live up to expectations & 20th Century Fox could decide to rethink everything.

If we are just waiting until after Prometheus 2, (2017) the odds are better. Blomkamp really wants to get rolling with this and Weaver seems to be energized about the project. Fingers crossed it will happen.
