It was only a matter of time. In a December 25th interview, George Lucas finally reveals his true feelings about the The Force Awakens.
In an interview, the father of Star Wars could no longer keep his silence. George Lucas talks about what he would have done and how The Force Awakens is a cash grab.
On one side, I see where George is coming from. In my opinion, The Force Awakens was a great film but given the massive amount of hype that came before its release, I did expect something more fresh than an updated soft reboot of A New Hope. For that, I don’t understand how it continues to smash record after record at the box office. It’s just further proof of a sad reality that movie goers are sheep and prefer getting caught in nostalgia and seeing the same thing over and over again rather than something new. Again, I will say, it was a great film! For some reason every time I talk about this, people seem to zero in on certain comments I make and discard that I said that. It’s just not an incredible film. So I do understand why Lucas might think negatively about it.
On the other side, I don’t think George Lucas was capable of making a better Star Wars film and he should shut the hell up. Disney didn’t give us 3 prequels that I would be content with writing off. Disney didn’t create Jar Jar Binks. Disney didn’t put together that painful scene in Revenge of the Sith where 3PO gets his head detached from his body and reattached to a battle droids body. Was that suppose to be funny? Disney didn’t cast not 1 but 2 annoying people to play Anakin. You did all that George! Dude, you sold out for $4 billion dollars. I don’t blame you. Who wouldn’t for that chunk of change. So go fade into the mist and stop talking about what you would have done.
